Building a quality email list is very important to ensure that your email campaign delivers desirable ROI. It’s best to send emails only to those who have opted in. The days of buying email lists are over and can result in many of your emails being marked as spam, which could seriously damage your email deliverability rate, and will also not result in high-quality leads.
Instead, build a list of leads by exploring these five strategies:
1). Use email campaigns to collect contacts
Surprised? Not really. Your content needs to be amazing if you want people to stay subscribed and to forward your emails to their friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage your current email subscribers to share and forward your emails by including social sharing buttons and an “Email to a Friend” button in your marketing emails. Include a “Subscribe” call-to-action button so that those receiving the forwarded emails can easily opt-in.
2). Rerun a campaign with a stale email list
Create an opt-in campaign. For example, create an engaging opt-in message and send it to your old list, encouraging contacts to re-opt-in and promising to remove all contacts who don’t respond. Getting engaged contacts could improve your deliverability rate and increase the chances that your email will be shared with those outside your database of current contacts.
3). Promote an offer on your website and social media
Another way to build a quality email list is to run an offer such as an online contest, or a free giveaway. Entrants will need to provide their email address when signing up.
One method which has often successfully worked for me is to add a link (campaign link or blog subscription link) to employees’ signatures, which then leads people to a landing page where they can sign up for your mailing list.
4). Create a new lead gen offer
Offer a free ebook, whitepaper, or even a new blog asking visitors to provide an email address in order to download it. Promote it on your website and social media with a lead capture form.
Remember, make it easy for people to find your subscription options. Do not make them dig around your site to find how to subscribe. Keep your offers highly visible, and include calls-to-action on just about every page of your website. Key places to consider are your website’s home page, the main page of your blog, your “About Us” page, and your “Contact Us” page.
5). Web events – What better way to get emails than to host an online webinar and collect email addresses at the registration. Doing this can get you quality email addresses of those whom you can contact and build business relationships.
